The Thing from the Tea

Last weekend we spent a rainy day making kombucha and some sourdough. We decided to document the kombucha process as we couldn’t have our readers missing out on seeing the beautiful scoby Ollie made! Updates on the final result to come in a later instalment.

We also went outside for a walk around “Deer Lake” down the road from our apartment, but we regretted it slightly…

For those of you that were struggling, here is the answer to the “Where’s Rosie” puzzle from last week. We always think it looks so much lower down from the outside than it feels from the inside. It is a very tall building! We are floor 15 out of 40.

This weekend, we will be mostly eating nachos. It will be our first time watching the superbowl, as its finally going to be on at a reasonable time! Go team football!

  1. What a show. I cant wait for the cook book that you write. I imagine some of Ollie’s bits will be crossed out with little asides from Rosie next to them. It will also include Where’s Rollie and some bits entitled ‘because physics’ … I wll get you my agent’s number.

I wonder what will be next for the fermenting jar!

  2. I didn’t know what kombucha was, I do now!
“Kombucha (also tea mushroom, tea fungus, or Manchurian mushroom …… “ I assume you’ll be adding some fruity flavouring? Maybe I should give it a go as we start our detox on Monday.
Love following your adventures. Stay safe x

    1. Kombucha seems like it should be right up your street Sue! The fermentation in bottles step reminded me of you (or Richard?) making your own ginger beer. There is a risk of explosion… Ollie has put some lemon and ginger in the kombucha, but we haven’t tried it yet. Hope you are doing well, is it snowing in Normandy too?

  3. Kombucha looks disgusting! Maybe I’ll stick to Yorkshire Tea! I can’t help thinking that a scoby sounds like an item of drug paraphernalia, perhaps you can roll it up and smoke through it. Also it sounds a bit like bogey. Looks like one too. Just saying. 10 out of 10 for effort though!

  5. It has taken fourty three years for us at S.C.C to understand why you earthlings want dried leaves boiled rather than anything we have to offer. Now you want us to do WHAT?
